SummonerRL v2.3.0 Released


A major update for SummonerRL is now available, which includes a rework of most enemies in the game, giving them new powers to add more tactical challenges to your runs. Here is the full changelog:

FEATURE UPDATES

  • +Added a new monster ability system which allows normal monsters to have more special abilities. These have a simplified AI compared to bosses or familiars and generally trigger passively in response to certain conditions like taking or dealing damage, moving, at end of turn or on death. Possible effects that can be triggered include spawning new monsters or dungeon features, applying buffs and debuffs, or performing untargeted AOE attacks.
  • +Added a new performance system for spells. Certain spells must be performed continuously and require concentration while they are being cast. If the user takes damage or casts another spell, their concentration is broken and the spell goes on cooldown. Ending the performance manually by toggling the spell will cut its cooldown in half.
  • +Added the rare Summoner's Ballad spell, which increases speed, health regen and corruption resistance while it is being performed. 
  • +Added the rare Deep Silence spell, which increases stealth, sight and movement speed while it is being performed.
  • =AOE attacks are now rendered before the targets are hit by the attack.
  • =Spell names are highlighted while they are toggled on.
  • =Improved tileset support (though no tilesets have been added at this time).
  • =Optimized the loading of dungeon feature data.
  • =Optimized calculation of line of sight for abilities that generate dungeon features.
  • -Fixed an issue with negative overflow of sight values on familiars and bosses.
  • -Fixed an issue where AI pathfinding would not take into account that some objects were destroyed.
  • -Fixed an issue where the player could issue commands related to objects that were not visible.
  • -Fixed an issue where intercept abilities could reveal the name of monsters that were not visible.
  • -Fixed an issue with transparency when displaying text logs.

CONTENT UPDATES

  • Added a standard and branched upgrade to Hart's Parry. The branched upgrade is Petal Guard, which allows Hart to often protect himself against debuffs.
  • Increased the number of abilities Raptor has access to.

Many monsters have new capabilities now, which should make them more diverse and interesting to fight. Some examples:

  • Groups of insects now behave like... well, a big group of insects
  • Molds are weaker but now spawn in large patches
  • Krakens spray ink while fleeing
  • Spiders now know how to shot web
  • Acid buds spray acid in an area when damaged
  • Salamanders leave fire behind them as they move
  • And many more!

Several bosses have also been balanced to provide a more appropriate challenge for the floor they are located on.
